readymade/remade/powerade
dallas, TX, 2021
“Remade/Readymade/Powerade” presents contemporary contemplations in abstraction by four MFA candidates from the University of North Texas. Joshua Steven Bryant, Victoria Gonzales, Erika Jaeggli, and Claire Kennedy work in collaboration to create visual engagement between their works. Using paint, thread, found objects, and craft materials, these artists make associations to the long history of pictorial painting, while also questioning the future of painting as a genre. In Jaeggli’s work, canvas, fabric, paint, and other materials blend together to immerse the viewer in a fluid meditation on caves, wombs, and emergence. Each artist will present two new works in a temporary space provided by Herschel Weisfeld, asking viewers to navigate varying perspectives on abstraction in the contemporary.”
