RAIN Paintings/ 2020 - 2022

This work is defined by its process: namely, the use of nature in the initial making of the pieces. Since March of 2020, when the pandemic began, I have been working entirely out of my house. Every time it rained (which in Texas is not that often), I would quickly bring raw canvas outside, lay down pigment, and allow the rain to make its marks. The resulting work embodies the ethos of the pandemic in both process and concept. On the one hand, I was making work outside for health reasons and home-studio constraints, and on the other hand, the emerging imagery in the work evokes the body, virus, contagion, and isolation.
