19 Paintings
Union gallery, denton, TX, 2021
“19 Paintings" was a show that opened in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic, in the Fall of 2021. Nineteen is a reference to the time that we live in, that which has been defined by Covid-19. The are paintings were made over the course of the past year and a half of Covid-19, and are reflections of and meditations on that time. The use of raw pigment, rain and wax, create layered paintings that are artifacts of this specific time and space. Through repeatedly rubbing, washing and scraping surfaces over time, Jaeggli works with the language of abstraction to evoke a guttural response and point to a raw, interior space. Additionally, collections of objects that were found during this period make their way into the work.
